Data-privacy Guidelines of Google Ads Linktracking
Scope and purpose
8awake uses Google Ads link tracking to measure clicks, assess campaign performance and understand which advertising campaigns, ads and keywords bring visitors to an advertised website. This notice explains the scope of that measurement service and supplements our general privacy notice. The currently implemented endpoint provides transparent redirects; internal click-event recording and campaign reporting have not yet been activated. The measurement described here applies when those functions are enabled.
Transparent redirection
The tracking link identifies the advertiser or client and contains the next destination in its redirect parameter. We validate that destination and respond with a server-side HTTPS redirect to it. We do not secretly replace the visible destination with another target. With Google Ads parallel tracking, Google may send the visitor directly to the advertised website while contacting our endpoint in the background. In that case our endpoint follows the Google-provided background destination.
Information involved in click measurement
Tracking links may contain a client identifier, campaign name or ID, ad group and ad identifiers, keyword and match type, device and network categories, target and request identifiers, Google click identifiers such as GCLID, GBRAID or WBRAID, and the destination URL. These values allow clicks to be assigned to campaigns and campaign results to be evaluated when measurement is enabled. A client identifier refers to the advertiser or integration and is not a browser identifier assigned by this endpoint. Click identifiers and URLs can nevertheless be personal data; they must not be treated as anonymous merely because a name is absent. Please do not place names, email addresses, health information or other unnecessary personal data in tracking URLs.
Cookies, access logs and destination websites
The redirect endpoint does not set cookies, read application cookies or login credentials, or write identifiers to browser storage. Hosting infrastructure may process technical request information, including IP addresses, request times, browser information and requested URLs, for delivery, operation and security. Such infrastructure logs are distinct from campaign click records. Visiting the destination website, Google Ads processing and any consent-based analytics or advertising tags are governed by their respective privacy notices and consent settings; this notice does not replace them.
Data protection safeguards
Personal data must be processed only for specified purposes, on an applicable legal basis, and limited to what is necessary. Campaign measurement does not in itself authorize additional advertising cookies or cross-site profiling. Any processing that requires consent must remain subject to that consent. Access to any stored click records must be restricted to authorized persons. Information about the actual measurement records, controller or processor responsibilities, service providers, international transfers and retention periods will be specified before internal measurement is activated. This draft does not assert that click records are already stored or that a particular retention period has been configured.
